JONATHAN BRITT, P.E.
Candidate for
Lenoir County Board of Education - At-Large

I’m Jonathan Britt, parent of 2 students and husband to a teacher in the Lenoir County Public Schools system. I grew up in a farming family, graduated from North Lenoir High School, and married my high school sweetheart. We have lived in Lenoir County our entire married life of 19 years and attend The Way Church in Kinston. I have a great desire for and interest in the success of our community and the Lenoir County Public Schools system and believe serving as a Board of Education member is a key opportunity for supporting both.

COLLEGE & CAREER

I graduated from North Carolina State University in 2002 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biological Engineering and have been a licensed North Carolina Professional Engineer since 2007. My career experience includes current employment in the public utility sector where I have managed operations and maintenance activities, capital improvement projects planning and implementations, and currently lead organizational budgeting & financial planning. Past consulting experience includes oil & gas industry client support in the areas of operations and infrastructure integrity, engineering management, as well as business strategy and planning. I have served on the Board of Directors for the American Public Gas Association (APGA) - Research Foundation, Utilization Technology Development (UTD) and Carolinas Public Gas Association (CPGA). I currently serve as an Elder, Finance Team Chairman, and Worship Team Leader at The Way Church.

EDUCATION ADVOCACY

Decisions impacting our children and their educations in response to the Covid-19 pandemic both nationally and locally moved me from casual School Board activity observer to committed parent advocate for our students. I have attended and participated in LCPS Board of Education meetings, written emails, made calls, and shared pertinent information and data with Board members and administrators. I am also the administrator for the Lenoir County Parents for Successful Education Facebook group and created and managed a political action committee in the fall of 2020 to support campaigns for other Board seats. Each activity has hopefully raised community awareness of the importance of being actively involved in the education, health, well-being of our children.

WHY I’M RUNNING

I firmly believe that the combination of my vested interests in Lenoir County, professional experience, and parent activism have uniquely qualified me to serve as an effective representative for parents, teachers, and other stakeholders interested in enhancing our students’ educational opportunities and advancement toward successful futures.
